Stop Harassment from Debt Collectors

Many consumers are unaware that they are victims of illegal debt collection practices. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act bans specific behaviors, but that doesn’t stop all collection agencies from using strategies that they have found to be effective, even if they are against the law. Just because you may owe a debt doesn’t mean that the collection agency can communicate with you in any way they choose! Examples of illegal debt collection practices include:

  • Contacting you very early in the morning or very late at night, or while you are at work
  • Calling you repeatedly, even after you ask them to stop
  • Not telling you that they are a debt collection agency, or using a false identity
  • Talking to someone other than your attorney about your debt
  • Using threatening, profane, or abusive language
  • Using scare tactics, like wrongly claiming that you will go to prison or have property seized because of this debt

If you believe that you have been harassed by a debt collector, contact us. Because we don’t get paid unless you receive a settlement, there is NO cost to you to speak with one of our attorneys. Therefore, it is always to your benefit to let us look into your case. In order for us to have the complete and accurate picture of your situation and communication with the debt collector, please save all voice mails and phone records, and fill out this short harassment form.
